On the 'crest of the wave' of Ultimate, Jorge masvidal arrived, in 2019, at the peak of his career. After heading, together with Nate diaz, the most watched event of the year and winning a symbolic title created especially for the show, the athlete's fame only increased and, as a result, new opportunities arose. In search of the next step, Jorge may have to face another member of the Diaz family, as Nick, Nate's older brother, took on his relative's pain and decided to publicly challenge Jorge. Known for not rejecting fights, Masvidal welcomed the suggestion and, in an interview with 'Below The Belt With Brendan Schaub', spoke about the possibility.

“If he (Nick) has that fire, I know we're going to have a fight. I know Nick is a tough guy. He'll get what I give, and I'll give him everything I have to erase him. So I'm excited for the fight. I know he wants to hurt me. He has to avenge his little brother. So, it’s a fight that excites me”, said Jorge.

Although he is known for the aggressiveness with which he treats his opponents, Masvidal always makes a point of showing respect for the 'Diaz brothers'. In promoting combat UFC 244, in which the 'Most Thick' belt was up for grabs, Jorge did not verbally attack Nate at any point. With his older brother, the American showed the same courtesy.

“It’s a huge fight, and it has a great story behind it. I always liked his style. I always liked how he fights. I never thought he was the most skilled guy, but I think he's one of the guys with the biggest heart. He left everything there, win or lose. He always gave his all, and that's something I really admire,” said Masvidal.

If Ultimate decides to confirm the fight, Jorge will have achieved another gigantic feat. For the fight against Nick, the athlete will have taken his compatriot off a five-year hiatus in his career, given that Diaz has not competed in a professional fight since 2015, when he shared the octagon with Anderson Silva.

Currently 36 years old, Nick has 37 appearances, with 26 wins, nine losses and two duels without result. On his record, the athlete has a title fight for the UFC, when he faced Georges St Pierre, in 2013. On that occasion, the athlete was defeated by the Canadian in a unanimous decision by the judges.
