Rumors about Nick's possible return to MMA began after a disagreement regarding an alleged speech by Jorge masvidal, who stated that he would 'baptize' Nate diaz, Nick's younger brother, in the confrontation of UFC 244, valid for the symbolic title of 'Most Thick in Sports'.

Masvidal emerged victorious in the confrontation, which took place in early November and provoked the anger of his older brother, who came to Nate's defense, in addition to challenging and stating that he would beat Jorge.

“You want to talk about baptizing my younger brother, that [and] with you. I've never had anything disrespectful to say, but you don't say things like that about my brother. You’re screwed if you take the position of facing me,” Nick declared at the time.

Diaz has not been seen in action since the fight against Anderson Silva, which took place in 2015, almost five years ago. At first, the North American was defeated by the Brazilian, but the result of the confrontation was later changed after the two athletes were caught in anti-doping tests carried out during the training period.

If the return of the 'bad boy' is confirmed, the athlete will return close to 37 years old. Throughout his career, which has lasted 18 years, Diaz has competed in 37 fights, winning 26 and losing in nine; in addition to two clashes without result.

The fighter retired from the sport for the first time in 2013, after being beaten by Georges St.Pierre in a fight valid for the welterweight title (under 77kg). After the performance, Nick was out of action for almost two years.
