The Brazilian Vincent Luque he was close to taking a place among the top 10 in the light heavyweight division (up to 77kg.). Fighting against the former challenger for the category title, Stephen Thompson, the combatant fought, last Saturday (2), a three-round war with his rival and ended up being defeated in a unanimous decision by the judges. After the setback, the Brasilia native stated that the expectation was for victory, but that being beaten could help in his evolution as an athlete. Luque, in fact, didn't come away with the victory, but he managed, together with his opponent, to fight an exciting battle on the main card of the UFC 244. The athletes' drive and emotion at the tip of their gloves ended up earning their rivals the 'Fight of the Night' award, a bonus given to the athletes who performed best for the public at an event. In addition to paying for the presentation, the warriors took home another US$50.
This weekend's fight was important for the welterweights, who were going through different situations in their careers. Vicente, clearly on the rise, was looking to gain access for the first time to the group of 10 main fighters in the division.
Thompson, in turn, needed to win to overcome the bad phase that was coming. The American had lost in his last two appearances.
With the defeat, Luque should be kept in 14th place in the category, while the former title challenger is hoping to move up a notch.
