Canelo Alvarez defeats Sergey Kovalev and makes boxing history

Mexican fighter won the World Boxing Organization light heavyweight belt and has titles in four different categories

History is made in the world of Boxing! The Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez placeholder image placed his name in the hall of champion athletes in four different weight divisions in the noble art. On Saturday night (02), in Las Vegas (USA), he defeated Russian Sergey Kovalev by knockout, in the 11th round, and won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) light heavyweight belt.

With the new title, Canelo Alvarez placeholder image who had already been champion in light middleweight, middleweight and super middleweight, is equal to names like: Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns and Mike McCallum.

Mexican fans invaded Las Vegas, in the United States, to support their idol. And Canelo, who had moved up two weight classes to face Kovalev, felt the difference in size in the first round. Even so, he grew over time and put the best hands on the Russian.

On the way back to the 9th round, Canelo returned to using cleaner strikes and regained control of the dispute.

The end of the fight came at the end of the 11th round, when a combination of left hook and right cross left Kovalev, unconscious, leaning against the ropes.
