In a good moment in his career, coming from four victories in his last five appearances, the Brazilian wants to prove that he can still perform at a high level and face high-level athletes within the company. His return to the octagon should have been shorter, however, Shogun claims that he suffered an injury in his last engagement, in December last year, when he crashed Tyson Peter, which made it impossible for him to return to the sport with less time.

“I injured my hand in my last fight. I tried to recover so I could come back soon, but I really had to have surgery. I stopped for two months without moving my hand, but I was already doing weight training and other exercises without using a grip, without forcing the injury. According to my doctor and my team, our idea was to return to fighting from October onwards. So, everything went well and I’m clear of this injury”, commented the athlete.

Between 2012 and 2014, the Curitiba native went through a difficult time in his career, when he suffered four defeats in five fights. Some critics even suggested that the athlete retire, however, the Brazilian managed to reverse the situation and still commands respect when he steps into the Octagon. Mauricio guarantees that he will continue fighting as long as he feels good.

“This is a very personal decision for each person. In my case, I prefer to do what I want instead of being carried away by the moment. I'm very accomplished with my career, I've won belts, I'm a hall of famer. I approach every fight as if it were the last. I'll only stop when I feel like it. I'm very happy to fight in the UFC, and the UFC is very happy to be able to count on me”, concluded the fighter.
