Almost seven years have passed since Anthony Pettis knocked out Donald Cerrone in a fight valid for UFC Chicago, in January 2013. Coming from defeats, the North Americans seem to have become interested in rematching their first confrontation and are ready to make a new performance. The information was given by 'Showtime' coach Duke Roufus on his 'Facebook' account.

“It has been considered for a long time. The UFC offered the Anthony Pettis a new fight against Donald Cerrone. Donald and Anthony reached out to each other professionally and personally. They agreed to fight each other. They both gave MMA some epic performances fighting all of the best fighters in the sport. We are just waiting for a date to dance”, wrote the coach.

The moment, however, is not the best for athletes. Cerrone, who was close to being placed as the next challenger for Khabib Nurmagomedov, saw his hopes dashed when he was defeated by Tony Ferguson, in June this year. With the triumph over 'Cowboy', 'El Cucuy' was the fighter chosen to challenge the Russian in his next engagement.

Donald, as always, didn't let the defeat get him down and was ready to step into the Octagon three months after the setback. This time, the North American faced Justin gaethje, one of the fastest growing athletes within the division. Once again, Cerrone was beaten, this time with a knockout in the first round.

Former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), Pettis is far from his glory days in the sport. The fighter, who was once considered one of the most dangerous in the company, has been going through a period of instability in recent years. In their last 11 appearances, there were seven defeats.

'Showtime' staged a comeback after a beautiful victory over Stephen Thompson, which took place in March this year. On that occasion, Anthony surprised his opponent with a flying punch, remembering the athlete he was a few years ago. The performance earned the former champion the 'Performance of the Night' award, in the main fight of the UFC Nashville.

At 32 years old, Pettis now has 28 fights on his professional record. The athlete has 22 wins and nine losses.

Cerrone, 36, has already played on 50 occasions, totaling 36 triumphs, 13 setbacks and one unsuccessful fight.
