The welterweight champion (up to 77kg.), Kamaru Usman, won over a portion of the Brazilian public by stating that their fight against Colby covington, UFC 245, which will be held on December 14, will be an opportunity to avenge the Brazilian public, with whom the North American fell out in 2017. According to the Nigerian, the victory will represent the Brazilians, as well as Europeans and Africans. The statement was given in an interview with 'Combate'.

“Brazil, on December 14th I’m going to kill Colby for you too. It's not just for me, it's not just for Africa or Europe. This victory will be for you, and I’m going to war”, said the champion.

Colby's relationship with the Brazilian public was shaken when the athlete came to the country to stage a confrontation against Demian Maia, which occurred two years ago, in UFC Sao Paulo. At the time, the athlete spared no criticism of the Tupiniquim territory and people and was even threatened during the week of the confrontation.

On that occasion, the North American won the unanimous decision of the judges, which encouraged the athlete to compete for the division's interim belt against another Brazilian, Rafael dos Anjos. In a fight held in 2018, at UFC 225, Covington again emerged victorious and, as a bonus, had the division title on his belt.

Even though he lost the interim belt due to inactivity in the company, Colby had already shown that he is capable of promoting his fights and winning them. He wasn't just a cheap provocateur. With the awareness of the quality of his opponent, the champion, Usman, claims to have more tools to emerge victorious in the December duel.

“I'm better than him at everything. He has the ability to set the pace, but so do I. I hit much harder, I'm more technical, I can fight right-handed or left-handed, I can hit with either hand, knock out with my right or left if I need to. I’m a different animal in this sport,” said Kamaru.

In the duel against the North American, Kamaru will make his first title defense since becoming number one in the category in March 2019, beating Tyron woodley. This will be the Nigerian's 17th appearance in MMA, with 15 wins and one defeat on his professional resume.
