It wasn't an exciting fight, but Dhiego Lima has reason to celebrate after his performance in UFC 243, this Saturday (5), in Australia. Against Luke Jumeau, the home athlete, the fighter showed intelligence and controlled his actions during practically the entire fight. At the end of three rounds, the judges gave the Brazilian victory in a split decision. This was Goiás's third consecutive victory.

In his first two fights, Dhiego was defeated on both occasions. Finalist of TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) 25, the athlete lost to Jesse Taylor and, in his next match, ended up beaten by the former challenger for the middleweight title (up to 83,9kg.), Yushin Okami.

After the difficult time, Lima is now on her honeymoon with the company. With the triumph over the New Zealander, the welterweight (under 77kg) achieved his third consecutive victory, and the 15th in his professional record.

Jumeau's defeat made the athlete suffer his second defeat since debuting in the UFC in June 2017. To date, the athlete has had four fights for Ultimate.

The fight

Dhiego started the fight by taking the initiative, throwing a few punches to Jumeau's stomach area, who responded with a low kick. The New Zealander continued betting on kicks, trying to shake the Brazilian's base. The athletes, although they attacked, showed great caution so as not to be surprised by a blow on the counterattack. After almost three minutes, Lima threw a good kick, hitting the left leg and shaking Luke. Almost two minutes into the match, the fight was interrupted after the Goiás player hit him with a finger in the eye. After medical evaluation, the athlete returned to the duel. Another low kick finally made the New Zealander concede the blow. Dhiego showed confidence in combat and was able to connect good combinations of punches and kicks.

At the beginning of the second round, Jumeau went to the ground after receiving another kick from Lima. The Goiano man took advantage of the moment and went after his opponent and delivered some blows from top to bottom. After the attacks, the Brazilian allowed his opponent to get up. Halfway through the second round, the New Zealander was already breathing heavily. The Brazilian remained active in the fight and delivering the best blows. Luke's leg was significantly red and the man from Goiás started to undermine the area with blows, trying to bother his opponent as much as possible. In the final minute, Lima managed to take the fight to the ground to score and take advantage.

In the final stage, Luke needed to attack the Brazilian to reduce the losses from the initial rounds. More cautious, Dhiego began to wait for his opponent's actions and act on the counterattack. Lima avoided being trapped in the bars to avoid the risk of being knocked out. As the fight approached the end, the athletes began to exchange blows at close range. With a chance of a knockout for both sides, the rivals connected good blows, raising the audience's spirits.
