Finger in the eye ends main fight of UFC Mexico City in just 15 seconds and fans revolt

A true anticlimax marked the main fight of the UFC Mexico City, event held this Saturday (21). Mexican fans filled the arena to support Yair Rodriguez in the fight against Jeremy Stephens. But the duel came to an end after just 15 seconds, due to an accidental finger to the eye applied by the local fighter.

The illegal blow happened in the first exchange of blows, when Rodriguez threw a low kick and Stephens shortened the shot to counterattack. The Mexican stretched out his hand to push his rival away, but his fingers hit both of the North American's eyes.

Jeremy had five minutes to recover, but he couldn't even open his eye. The doctor was called to examine the fighter and after the recovery period, referee Herb Dean ended the dispute.

The Mexican fans were furious at the end of the fight and threw several glasses into the octagon, while Rodriguez was a mix of emotions. He even climbed onto the bars in the octagon to cheer up the crowd, but then sat down on the floor and burst into tears.

Let’s do this fight again”, said Yair still in the Octagon.
