Light heavyweight (up to 93kg), Vinícius Mamute wants to finally win his first UFC victory. Since signing a contract with the company and making his debut in January this year, the athlete has failed to win in either of the two commitments for which he was selected. This Saturday (21), the athlete wants to overcome Paul Craig and bets on finishing to add his first victory for the company. The statement was made in an interview with 'Combate'.

"I will not lie. It's difficult to deal with defeat. I had never come from two consecutive defeats. Losing is bad enough, even more so after two defeats. But thank God, psychologically, I managed to get back on my feet and I'm confident. In my last fight, for example, I had a good chance of winning, it was due to a small detail. Now, just concentrate. I'm not under pressure. It seems like I'm coming from a victory, and I'm going to do the best I can on Saturday and come out with the victory”, said the Brasilia native.

This weekend, the Brazilian will face an opponent who is also coming off a defeat and is going through a moment of instability within the company. In his Ultimate commitments, Paul competed in seven fights and emerged victorious in just three. The athlete, who debuted for the organization in 2016, is looking to establish himself in the company and also needs to succeed.

Vinícius believes in the possibility of the duel being played on the ground. According to Mamute, his opponent is competent in jiu-jitsu, which could lead to the fight being decided by the 'gentle art'.

“He really has excellent jiu-jitsu. I know it. I won't belittle it. I'm also into jiu-jitsu and I will never despise it. But I trust my jiu-jitsu. (Craig) He's also a tall guy, if I'm not mistaken, and we're both the ones with the most submissions in this category, light heavyweight. The public is retiring in a submission, whether mine or his, but let my submission come” said the fighter.

Mamute gained access to the UFC after participating in the reality show “Dana White Contender Series”. The fighter secured his professional contract with the organization after beating John allan Art by submission in the second round.

In his last duel, held in June, the Brazilian ended up being knocked out by Erik Anders by knockout. Vinícius, 30 years old, debuted in MMA in 2015 and, since then, has had 12 fights, with nine triumphs and three setbacks.
