The setback for the Russian has not been easy for Dustin to digest. The fighter even cried at the press conference after the event, showing that he was visibly shaken by the negative result. According to Poirier, he was very prepared for what would be the most important night of his career.

The athlete also revealed that he will probably go through difficult times in the coming days and will have to learn to live with this defeat in order to move forward, whether as a fighter or not.

“I was so prepared and now I have to wake up and look at myself in the mirror every morning with this result. If there's one thing that defeat has taught me in the past, it's that if times are good, be grateful. When the moment is like now, be grateful”, declared the lightweight.

Poirier still cannot predict what he will do in the coming weeks. The plan is to rest and think about the next step for my career and personal life.

“I'm just going to go home and spend time with my family. It was a long journey. I'm proud of everything I've achieved in sport. I still have air in the tires, but now I need some time to think”, concluded the North American.

The setback marked the sixth defeat in Poirier's career, who, at 30 years old, has 25 career victories and one fight without result.
