The lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg.), Khabib Nurmagomedov, breaks the rules of the rest of the UFC champions. At a time when the company is going out of its way to hold super fights, with fighters holding two titles in different categories, the Russian states that he prefers to maintain his legacy and unbeaten record only in his division. In a recent press conference for the UFC 242, the fighter commented on his ideas.

“I think if you want to improve your legacy by changing weight classes, I don't think that's going to help you. Only one thing helps: you have to beat the best. What about when you defeat tough opponents and are still undefeated? I think that’s what enhances his legacy,” Nurmagomedov said.

The Russian insisted that an athlete who has not lost in his career can be considered a milestone in the sport. For him, more than boasting titles in different categories, what counts is ending his career without blemishes or defeats.

“When you lose a few times and win a belt, two, and then you lose again; then wins a third title. That doesn't make you the best. In my opinion, when you are unbeatable for a long time and never lost, that is what makes a legend”, added the Russian.

Finally, the fighter confirmed that he does not intend to try a super fight in divisions above or below his current one. Khabib's legacy, according to the athlete himself, will continue to be built among the UFC lightweights.

“When you enter the Octagon and then you win, win and win, that helps people talk about this guy. I don't think about fighting at welterweight (up to 77kg) or featherweight (up to 65,7kg). My focus is on lightweight,” concluded Nurmagomedov.

The talk about invincibility can fit perfectly into Khabib's record, who, at 30 years old, has never been defeated in his career. The fighter has 27 fights and doesn't know the taste of defeat.

The Russian is scheduled to face the North American, Dustin poirier, in a fight valid for the unification of the lightweight title. The duel will take place this weekend and will mark the main show of the UFC 242.
