Average weight (up to 83,9kg.), Paulo borrachinha, underwent surgery to correct an injury to his biceps tendon, in which the athlete suffered a partial tear. The fighter stated that the situation was not caused after the fight against Yoel romero, but he had already had the problem since before the fight held in August, at UFC 241. In an interview with 'Combate', the Minas Gerais native commented on the procedure and said he did not have a date to return to the Octagon.

“I already knew about this injury. I fought (against Romero) with an injured arm, with 50% of it (tendon) torn, that is, I only had 50% strength in my left arm, but I fought and won. After the fight, I had an exam again and it was a little worse, very inflamed and with edema. And, as we know that the next fight will be for the title, and it will take a while, probably more than five months, so I decided to have this surgery quickly”, said Paulo.

The surgery was performed in the United States, more precisely in Los Angeles. According to the athlete, he will be able to perform movements with his arm within 10 days, but he can normally carry out light activities, which do not involve the need for the operated arm. The expectation is that the fighter will be ready as soon as possible to fight for the title of his division next year.

The fighter guaranteed the right to face the winner among the division champions, Israel adesanya (interim) and Robert whittaker (linear), who will fight for the unification of the title on October 5th, for the UFC 243, in Australia. The UFC president himself guaranteed the Brazilian's presence on the card, so that the appropriate challenge to the absolute champion of the category can be carried out.

Regarding the October fight, Borrachinha was not on the fence about his opinion on who would win the fight. A self-confessed dislike of Adesanya, the fighter stated that he believes that the Nigerian will not be able to overcome Whittaker, known for his heavy hands and aggression.

“I'm not betting (on Adesanya), in fact I even think he'll lose to Whittaker. But, one way or another, we're going to have to fight at some point, and I really want to fight with him because he's a loudmouth”, commented the Minas Gerais native. “He's already talked a lot about me in my absence, and I'm going to charge him for the bill. But I think he will lose to Whittaker, who I think is more complete. He has jiu-jitsu, he has wrestling, and Adesanya only has muay thai. That’s why he will succumb”, said the fighter.

Borrachinha is one of Brazil's bets for the new generation of national MMA. Currently, the 28-year-old athlete has 13 fights in his career and has never been defeated. In his professional record, the Minas Gerais native has 11 knockouts.
