The former featherweight and lightweight champion, Conor McGregor seems to have felt a reality check in the last few days. The fighter, who was caught attacking a man in a bar last week, in a rare moment of lucidity, apologized and spoke about the matter for the first time after the incident. The statements were made in an interview with 'ESPN'.

"I was wrong. That man deserved to have fun at the pub (bar) without it having to end like that. I tried to make amends and I made amends, but it doesn't matter. I was wrong. I have to take responsibility. I owe this to the people who support me. I owe this to my mother, my father, my family. I owe this to the people who trained me in martial arts. That's not who I am. That's not the reason I got into martial arts or studied combat sports. The reason I joined was to go against this type of scenario, said the 'Notorious'.

The fighter also acknowledged that the fact that he has made a lot of money in recent years may have affected his way of dealing with certain situations. The athlete, in 2018, was on the list of the highest paid athletes in the world of sport.

“I'm in a position that very few fighters can be in. I can be rich and spoiled, and ruin everything in a short time, leaving a trail of ruins behind. Or I can get my head on straight, build the future for my grandchildren's grandchildren. If I have this chance and I can't do things the right way, and if I can't build the future of my grandchildren's grandchildren, all my success, everything I've achieved will have been in vain, it won't have any meaning for me. I have to do what is right, I have to walk this path. The path that is already mapped out, the cliché of the fighter of the fighter who has everything. I have to learn from others' mistakes in the past and grow. That’s what I’m doing now, every day”, highlighted Conor.

The fighter, even without acting since October last year, when he was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov in the fight for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg), he continues to be one of the most profitable athletes in the UFC. With the ability to promote fights above the norm, McGregor has undoubtedly changed the way fights are negotiated and turns the events in which he participates into true media spectacles.

At 31 years old, the Irishman has 25 fights in his professional record, with 21 victories and just four defeats.
