The challenger for the featherweight title (up to 54,7kg.), Frankie Edgar commented on the challenge made by Henry Cejudo, holder of the flyweight (up to 56,7kg.) and bantamweight (up to 61,2kg.) belts. Cejudo has publicly declared his desire to make history and hold three belts in different categories, something never done in the UFC. The Olympic champion reported his desire to face Edgar, if the athlete overcomes Max Holloway at UFC 240, this Saturday (27). In a recent interview with 'MMA Fighting' Frankie responded to his compatriot.

“That guy talks a lot of nonsense. Most of the things he says are nonsense. Nobody listens to what he is saying. My focus now is to face the featherweight champion,” said Edgar.

Still on Cejudo, Frankie made a point of also teasing the number one flyweight and bantamweight by stating that he is not the biggest challenge at the moment. For Frankie, the biggest challenge now is Holloway, holder of the featherweight belt.

“I’m not looking to fight the smallest guy. I want to beat the best guy and, right now, it's Max (Holloway)”, teased the American.

This weekend, Frankie will have his third opportunity to win the division title. The athlete has already been in challenger status twice. Both against the Brazilian José Aldo. One, in 2013 and the other in 2016. On both occasions, Edgar was defeated in a unanimous decision by the judges.

Known for his excellent boxing and above-average aggression, Holloway will attempt his third title defense since beating the 'People's Champion' in 2017. The North American recently moved up a category in order to try to win the interim lightweight belt (until 70,3kg.). However, the athlete ended up defeated Dustin poirier in a great duel that took place in April this year.

PUBLICITY:

Henry Cejudo did not express interest in facing Max Holloway in a future. The North American's size does not favor the bantamweight for a direct confrontation. Frankie, however, is smaller in stature and could theoretically be a more viable challenge for the Olympic champion.
