Thiago Marreta reports difficulties in routine after knee surgery: A lot of pain'

“It’s already 7 days after surgery on my knees. I admit that these are difficult days and I feel a lot of pain. I can't sleep or eat properly because of the medications. I'm afraid to even go to the bathroom, because walking to the bathroom is a struggle. Thank God the pain is lessening”, wrote the athlete.

After the clash with Jones, Marreta completely tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, suffered a fracture in his tibia, as well as partial tears in the medial collateral ligament and meniscus. On the right, the athlete had a meniscus intervention. Thiago's recovery is expected to last around eight months. The athlete will then only be able to return to the Octagon in 2020.

Before the injury, Marreta was in a great phase of his career. After moving up a category, the Brazilian, who left the middleweight division (up to 83,9kg) to venture into the light heavyweight division, showed that he has the ability to perform at a better level and perform on equal terms against renowned opponents. Against Jones, the fighter, who was considered an underdog in most betting houses, impressed MMA enthusiasts by providing Jones with a level of difficulty in the fight above what the public is used to seeing.
