Thiago Marreta was the toughest rival of his career Jon Jones. Even though he injured his knee in the first round, the Brazilian, who had difficulty staying on his feet for several moments, exploded in good moments, punished Jones' base and narrowly missed out on winning. In the end, two judges scored the contest for the North American, while one judge saw the Brazilian athlete's triumph. However, such was the balance that those responsible for judging the fight did not agree on who won each round.

Among the judges, Michael Bell, who saw Jones' victory, scored rounds 1 and 5 for the Brazilian; Junichiro Kamijo, who saw Marreta's triumph, scored the splits: 1, 2 4 for the Tupiniquim athlete; Derek Cleary, who also saw the champion emerge victorious, scored rounds 1 and 4 for Thiago.
As a result, only Round 1 for Marreta and Round 3 for Jones had a clear winner for the judges (see the scorecard below).
In press outlets specializing in MMA, the balance in appointments was also clear. MMA Junkie surprised and scored 50-45 for Jon. But Phil Murphy, from ESPN in the United States, scored it 48-47 for the American, as did Tim Burke, editor of the website BloodyElbow.
On the other hand, Jed Meshew from MMA Fighting, Adam Martin, from Sherdog and Brett Okamoto from ESPN in the USA, saw the Brazilian's triumph by 48-47.
