One of the main names in the UFC today is certainly Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Russian athlete, undefeated to date, had his prestige increased after defeating Conor McGregor in a big event held in October last year, at UFC 229, valid for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg.). Today, a millionaire, the fighter revealed that he has no plans to extend his career for a long time, considering he is no longer a boy. The statement was made in a recent interview with the program 'Russia 24'.

“No doubts (about retiring soon). I'm not a kid in this sport anymore. My career is long. I think I should do some more fights. I still have the spark of competition in me. The fire for the challenge. I want to fight and show all my skills against the best athletes. Time will tell, but right now I'm worried about my next battle,” Khabib said.

The athlete is scheduled to have his first fight since being released to perform after serving a nine-month suspension following the widespread confusion started by the Russian following his victory over Conor at UFC 229. Nurmagomedov will face the American Dustin poirier, who won the division's interim belt after beating Max Holloway in April this year.

The duel was confirmed to take place on September 7th, by UFC 242, in Abu Dhabi. The winner will, after the meeting, be considered the absolute champion of the division, which, today, is considered one of the most competitive within the company.

In addition to talking about whether or not he will remain in MMA, Khabib also declared his desire to carry out the long-awaited fight against the American Tony Ferguson, who recently defeated Donald Cerrone on his return to the octagon after more than eight months of inactivity due to injuries and personal problems. The Russian, however, stated that Ferguson needs to win one more fight if he wants to qualify to fight for the belt.

“We need a fight with Ferguson. However, I don't choose opponents. In fact, I've never done that. I'm in great shape and healthy. I have an undefeated streak, and I have the belt. If Tony wants a fight, he has to step up. I don’t care if it’s Poirier or Ferguson, I’m ready to fight anyone”, concluded Nurmagomedov.

At 30 years old, Khabib has, over the years, shown that he is an athlete to be respected. Throughout his career, the fighter has performed on 27 occasions (11 in Ultimate) and had his arm raised as a winner on every occasion. Against Poirier, in addition to the linear belt, the invincibility of the 'Eagle', as he is known, will also be put to the test.
