Amanda Nunes claims she was drunk when she considered retirement

Brazilian says statement about future in MMA was given in a state of intoxication and that she intends to continue fighting

The bantamweight (up to 61,2kg) and featherweight (up to 65,7kg) champion, Amanda nunes reassured his fans by reporting that he does not intend to retire from MMA. According to the athlete, who recently reported wanting to hang up her gloves, she was drunk when she made the statement. The repair occurred in a recent interview with 'ESPN'.

“I was drunk in that interview. I had drunk a lot that night when they pulled me in for the interview. 'I can't give an interview now, Nina (Amanda's partner)!' I really was. I had drunk a lot that night. And not. I will fight until my body tells me to stop,” she added.

Although Nunes denied her supposed retirement, the athlete confirmed that the thought had crossed her mind. According to the champion, her mother asked the athlete not to face Chris Cyborg in his last fight. The Brazilian said that the mother feared for her daughter's health, as Cyborg is well known for her aggressiveness and for being a dominant fighter among women.

“When you hear that name, 'Cyborg,' you automatically think, 'damn, Cyborg!' But I told my mom and said, 'Don't worry. I'm going to defeat her'”, said the Brazilian.

Little by little, Amanda has been fulfilling what she promised since she became bantamweight champion, when she defeated Miesha Tate, in July 2016, at UFC 200. The Brazilian's plan was to take the position assumed by Ronda Rousey and be considered the greatest female athlete in the history of MMA.

The 'Lioness', little by little making her dream come true. In addition to defeating the legendary Rousey, Nunes also made history by defeating Cris and becoming the first athlete to win two belts in different UFC categories.

For Amanda, her legacy will be continued and, ruling out retirement once and for all, the Brazilian stated her desire to continue performing for Ultimate.

“I’m a fighter. What will I do if I stop fighting? Go back to studying”, asked Nunes.

The Brazilian will defend her bantamweight belt for the fourth time this Saturday (6), at UFC 239, against the former champion of the category, Holly holm. The athletes will face each other in the co-main fight of the night, which will have as its main attraction the meeting between Jon Jones e Thiago Marreta in contention for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg.)
