One of the greatest rivalries in the history of MMA is certainly the duel between Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier. Although the two have already faced each other on two occasions, the Ultimate leader stated that he wants to hold a third meeting between them, but this time, between the heavyweights (under 120,2kg). The statement was made in a recent interview with 'ESPN'. The duel could happen if DC wins again Stipe Miocic for the division belt in a fight scheduled for August 17, at UFC 241.

“Cormier has the fight against Stipe Miocic. If he wins, he probably has two more fights in his career. I hope one of them is against Jon Jones, and I hope it’s for the heavyweights”, said the ‘boss’.

The two fighters, however, have already spoken publicly about the matter and stated that, if they face each other again, they want to play at light heavyweight (up to 93kg). Jones, in a recent interview, confirmed that he does not want to fight at heavyweight, as he would be giving Cormier the advantage of strength, given that his rival is a heavyweight by birth. Daniel, in turn, said he wants to beat 'Bones' in the lower category, to avenge the defeat he suffered in 2017, which had its result changed after Jon was caught taking an anti-doping test.

“I just want the two of them to confirm that they will face each other,” said Dana, smiling. “They both agree that they want to fight in the light heavyweight division, but I would like to see them in the top division”, declared the president.

White also valued the fact why he wants to hold another fight between the two super athletes. For the president, these are two great names in the history of MMA and, both times they shared the octagon, all parties were satisfied with the result of both the duel itself and the pay-per-view sales.

“Cormier is one of the greatest athletes in history. The only guy who managed to defeat him was Jon Jones, and he hit him twice,” White said, ignoring the annulled 2017 result. “Does the third fight have to happen? No. But I'm sure the fans would like to watch it”, concluded Dana.

Both Jones and Daniel have commitments scheduled with the UFC. Jon faces the Brazilian Thiago Marreta next week, at UFC 239, in Las Vegas (USA), in his third title defense (light heavyweight) since regaining his belt in December last year by defeating Alexander Gustafson, at UFC 232.

Cormier, in turn, defends his heavyweight belt for the second time. The North American dethroned his compatriot Stipe Miocic in July last year and will hold one of the last fights of his career at UFC 241, in Anaheim (USA), on August 17th.
