Urijah Faber responds to Henry Cejudo's challenge: 'I would love to face him'

Shortly after announcing, at the age of 40, his return to MMA, and with a commitment scheduled, Urijah faber received an unusual challenge last Saturday (8). The new bantamweight champion (up to 61,2kg.), Henry Cejudo, launched a challenge to the athlete, among other names. In an interview with presenter Jim Rome, the 'California Kid' readily accepted the invitation. Faber has not played since December 2016.

“I would love to face him. There is nothing in the world that excites me more than the idea of ​​facing someone who can be considered one of the best martial arts athletes. What could be more exciting than that?” asked Urijah.

The challenge launched by Cejudo took place in the octagon, after the North American defeated the Brazilian Marlon moraes in the fight for the bantamweight title, in UFC 238. On that occasion, in addition to Faber, Henry also revealed his desire to face the former champions of the division cody garbrandt e Dominick Cruz.

For Cejudo, the important thing for his legacy is to be known as the athlete who defeated sports legends. Urijah, even though he didn't win any UFC belt during his time with the organization, fought historic fights for the company, which led him to enter the 'Hall of Fame' in 2017.

The Ultimate board, however, has not yet commented on the new champion's requests. However, the athlete will have to wait a while to be attended to, as the 'boss', Dana White, had signaled, during the week leading up to the UFC 238, that the division champion would face the winner of the fight between aljamain sterling e Peter Munhoz. If the strategy is maintained, Cejudo will have to go through one more challenge before meeting his demands.

Faber also couldn't hold the duel against Cejudo immediately. After announcing his return to the octagons at the end of May, the athlete was quick and has already scheduled his appointment for his re-debut as a professional MMA athlete. The fighter will share the octagon with Ricky simon, in the co-main fight of UFC Sacramento, on July 13.

During his entire career, Urijah played 43 times, winning 33 and being defeated 10 times.
