Due to Cejudo's victory, Dana White confirms his flyweight stay in the UFC

The up to 56.7 kg category, which was about to be closed, will continue to be active with Henry Cejudo as champion

Henry Cejudo won the bantamweight belt (up to 61.2 kg.), last Saturday (08). by defeating the Brazilian Marlon moraes in the main fight of UFC 238. But, in addition to the second title, the North American also saved the flyweight division (up to 56.7 kg.), a category in which he has held the title of champion since August 2018.

The end of the flyweight division was a long-standing UFC plan, so much so that the franchise released several athletes and only has 12 fighters on the roster. However, with a dominant performance against Marlon, Ultimate's president, Dana White, confirmed that the category will continue and Cejudo will continue to hold two belts.

“100% (continues). Obviously, him (Cejudo) winning had a lot to do with the division. Did I say (the division) will end? Did I say I was leaving? I haven’t even talked about that division in months,” Dana said.

Afterwards, a journalist asked the president to confirm the continuity of the division and White reaffirmed: “I just did it. (The flyweight stay) is confirmed,” he added.

It was not the first time

This is not the first time that Henry Cejudo 'save' the UFC flyweight. In January of this year, the then bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw, dropped in weight to face Cejudo. At the time, TJ even said that he had responded to a request from the franchise to 'close the category', but he was knocked out in 32 seconds and even failed the show's anti-doping test.
