UFC announces sponsorship of Jon Jones

Jon Jones will have a new – and unique – sponsor in the fight against Rashad evans, UFC 145. In an unprecedented move, the UFC announced that it will sponsor the light heavyweight champion in next Saturday's duel.

At a press conference, Jones reported that the agreement with the UFC was signed after losing sponsorship from Form Athletics, which closed. The young champion explained the situation to website American MMAWeekly:

“When Form Athletics ended, a bunch of other companies showed interest in working with me. I was very honored to be loved like that. We came up with the idea of keeping everything clean and only being sponsored by the UFC. I'm glad the UFC wants to work with me and I think they believe I will never disappoint them. You will never have to worry about me being influenced or doing something crazy. I think I'm a good guy for the company. The UFC asks me to do anything and I always do, I never say never to them for anything. I had to do more marketing than any other fighter because I don't say no to absolutely anything. I don’t think many champions are like that.”

The news did not leave Rashad evans very satisfied. Even though he avoided getting into controversy, the challenger left on the air, in an interview with the MMA Hour program, favoring the UFC towards his opponent:

PUBLICITY:

“I think that’s what it is. Looks like they have the guy they want to support, I guess. I can't really say much about it. I just have to go out there and do what I need to do. I can't really worry about who they favor or who they might like. It doesn’t change anything.”
