Brazilian Cosmo Alexandre spoke out about the injury suffered by Sage NorthCutt after the duel between the athletes last Friday (17). In a recent interview with the 'MMA Fighting' website, Cosmo reported his sadness upon learning that his opponent had to undergo a long surgery to reconstruct the bones of his face. The São Paulo native defeated the former UFC star by knockout just 29 seconds into the fight.

“As soon as the fight ended, his face was already swollen. This is not common. I had the feeling he wasn't 100%. I went backstage to see the doctors and he was in a different room. When they brought a stretcher in, I knew something serious had happened,” Cosmo reported.

After the incident, the Brazilian only found out about Sage's real situation when he saw his opponent's post on Instagram. Upon seeing the post, Alexandre confessed that he felt bad seeing his co-worker's condition.

“The other day I heard he had a long surgery. I hate that guy. I'm doing my job, to go out there and win. I know we can hurt each other, but not like that. I'm sad because it's his job and I don't wish that on anyone”, confessed the athlete.

The athlete received a better salary offer from the new organization and arranged his transfer with the aim of representing one of the most important fighters in the group, which already has former Ultimate champions such as Demetrious Johnson, Eddie Alvarez and, most recently, Vitor belfort.

Sage's new company, however, tried to test the athlete upon his debut. By casting the young man, aged 23, against an experienced fighter, aged 37, known for being a kickboxing world champion, ONE may have jumped the gun.

There are still no predictions about when Northcutt will be able to return to training. The signs, however, are that the fighter will return to training after a few months of recovery. In a recent interview, the Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos reported that this type of injury is one of the most complicated to cure and wished the North American a speedy recovery.
