the irish Conor McGregor He is certainly a name that will never be forgotten in the world of MMA. The athlete changed the direction of fight promotions and achieved figures reached by few fighters in the development of their careers. McGregor, however, in a recent interview with Tony Robbins, revealed that he is at another point in his career and evaluated the way he learned to spend his money, with LeBron James as inspiration.

“For a long time, in my early twenties, I started to accumulate wealth and money. I was fascinated by material things. I bought watches and cars. I stopped that”, commented Conor.

The fighter revealed that he was inspired by NBA star LeBron James, who, according to Conor, spent part of his finances investing in his own career, worrying about health in addition to personal luxuries.

“I read that LeBron James spent $1,5 million earlier on himself. He hired physiologists, therapists, masseuses, nutritionists; all of this. When I saw this, I realized I didn't do the same. I spent zero on myself”, declared the Irishman.

The former UFC featherweight (up to 65,7kg) and lightweight (up to 70,3kg) champion, in a moment of rare self-criticism, commented on the loss of focus during the preparation for his duels. Fame and money may have been responsible for the moment lived by the legend, which comes from defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov in the fight for the lightweight belt in October last year.

“When preparation for a fight begins, you take a group of people to the Las Vegas desert and prepare like crazy for 10 weeks (about two and a half months). You are half focused, not 100%”, Conor confessed. “You certainly can’t be like that in fighting; in fact, you can't be like that in any sport. If you are in the game, make sure you are focused, then it will be your game. I adopted this philosophy recently”, confessed the former champion.

McGregor has shocked the world a few times. The athlete, in August 2017, managed to hold a boxing match with million-dollar figures against the legendary Floyd Mayweather. After the fight, in which the Irishman was defeated by knockout, the MMA athlete guaranteed his financial independence and, from then on, few believed they would see him in the Octagon again.

However, in 2018, the Irishman surprised again and secured his return to mixed martial arts to challenge for the lightweight belt, which, at that time, belonged to Khabib. McGregor was defeated and currently finds himself without an opponent to resume his career. All of his possible rivals already have fights scheduled until the end of the year. The athlete, however, showed himself, above all, prepared with his mental balance, so that he can return to being the fighter he once was.

“I had falls, failures in my motivation. Failures in my commitment. But I'm working it out and I'm in a good place now,” concluded Conor.

The Irishman is currently 30 years old. Despite his latest setback, the athlete's record still remains impressive. In 25 fights in his career, the former champion won 21 victories and was defeated on four occasions.
