Tony Ferguson is really back. The UFC confirmed the fight between the former interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) against Donald Cerrone on his official Instagram account, last Sunday (12). 'El Cucuy' has not participated in an official fight since October last year and will face his compatriot in the UFC 238, in June.

After having gone through personal problems at the beginning of the year, Ferguson, who had announced last week that he was ready to return to the octagons, will face the charismatic Donald Cerrone, who is going through an excellent phase in his career. Tony will then try to maintain his undefeated streak of 11 fights without defeat. His opponent, however, has three consecutive victories within the organization.
The two athletes arrive to add to the card of the UFC 238, which takes place on June 8, in Chicago, and will have as its main fight the fight for the bantamweight belt (up to 61,2) between the current flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg.) Henry Cejudo and the Brazilian Marlon moraes. Another title will be on the line in the co-main event of the night. Valentina Shevchenko will face Jessica Eye by the title of flies.
Currently, Ferguson is at the top of the lightweight division, behind only the linear champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Dustin poirier, owner of the interim belt. The duel between the compatriots could qualify the winner to compete for the reign of the division following the result of the fight between the champions, which is expected to take place on September 7th, in Abu Dhabi, in UFC 242.
'Cowboy' is going through a magical moment in his career. In addition to the prestige with which he is treated by Ultimate, the fighter deserved the fight against the former number one in the category. In his last five fights, Cerrone was defeated only once, when he lost to the Englishman Leon edwards, in June last year. Since then, Donald has performed three times, winning each match well.
Last week, Dana White had stated that he found the marriage of a duel between Cerrone and the Irishman interesting Conor McGregor. Negotiations, however, do not seem to have progressed well.
Currently in fourth place in the lightweight rankings, Donald, 35 years old, has an obligation to triumph over Ferguson to dream even more about the category belt. In his career, the American has 46 fights, 34 wins, 11 losses and one fight without result.
Ferguson, 35, despite being away for eight months, boasts an incredible run of success. The athlete has not been defeated since 2012, when he lost to Michael Johnson by unanimous decision of the judges. Since then, the North American has had 11 fights, emerging victorious in all of them.
