In 2016, Phil Davis and Lian McGeary fought for the Bellator light heavyweight belt. At the time, Lian was the title holder, however, he was defeated by Davis in a unanimous decision by the judges at Bellator 163.
Just over two years after the first fight, the rematch took place. This time, the fight remained balanced, but, in a moment of happiness, Phil landed a good blow on Lian, who immediately felt his jaw break. On the ground, McGeary demonstrated that something was wrong, as he did not try to return his opponent's blows, and remained protecting his mouth area.
After a few blows, the Englishman hit the ground three times, saying he had given up the fight. Davis was then declared champion by knockout.
After the incident, McGeary published the post while in the hospital receiving appropriate treatment.
