This is Sakai's second fight for the UFC. In the first, he beat the North American Chase sherman by knockout in the third round, in UFC Sao Paulo, in September of last year.
Arlovski, 40 years old, however, after the setback, suffered his seventh defeat in his last 10 fights.
The fight
The battle between the two athletes started out quite tense. The fighters exchanged blows on their feet throughout the first round and maintained the expectation of a possible knockout at any moment. At the end of the stage, Augusto and his opponent seemed to save energy and cooled down the fight.
In the second round, Sakai returned looking for a knockout against Arlovski. The Brazilian tried some combinations of blows, but needed to remain alert so as not to be surprised by a counterattack from the former champion of the Ultimate division. Augusto, at times, seemed to respect his opponent a lot, missing some opportunities to hit his opponent and exposing himself in some situations.
The fighters entered the last round without certainty of the scores from the previous stages. The duel was balanced and remained the same. The athletes exchanged blows early on, however, they remained cautious when attacking. As he neared the end, Arlovski began to show signs of exhaustion. The Brazilian then took advantage of the moment and tried to take down his opponent, however, Andrei managed to resist and took the fight to the center of the octagon again until the battle was ended.
Virna Jandiroba is defeated and loses unbeaten record in UFC debut
The Brazilian Virna jandiroba was defeated by Carla esparza in his Ultimate debut. After the setback, Virna, who is a former Invicta FC champion and had a record of 14 fights and no defeats, lost her unbeaten record after being defeated by the North American.
Despite what many thought, Carla esparza did not respect Virna's ground game, who is a specialist in the sport. During the three rounds, the two athletes changed positions and tried to apply takedowns throughout practically the entire fight.
Even though she performed well, when the last round arrived, the Brazilian's energy seemed not to have been enough to beat the former UFC strawweight champion (up to 52,1 kg). The judges assessed the fight as a unanimous decision victory for Esparza.
