Khabib Nurmagomedov warns Tony Ferguson: 'You missed your chance to fight'

Ultimate offered the Tony Ferguson a fight for the interim lightweight belt against Max Holloway No. UFC 236 in Atlant, April 13th. 'El Cucuy' did not accept the offer, as he wants to face the linear champion of the category, Khabib Nurmagomedov. In a post on Instagram, 'The Eagle' sent a direct message to the American: 'You had your chance and you wasted it and it's all your fault'.

“I want to remind everyone that, before I became champion, I came close to fighting for the belt three times, and each time I lost that opportunity. First it was in 2016, when I was offered a fight in the month of Ramadan and I turned it down. The second time was at UFC 205, in New York, when I was offered a title fight, I signed the contract, but the fight was passed on to another athlete. You know the story. The third time was at UFC 209, when I was hospitalized and almost died. After each of those times I said to myself, 'You missed your chance, now win it back with another victory,'” Nurmagomedov said.

“Tony, you had your chance and you wasted it, and it's all your fault. You know I can't fight, and it's not fair that my belt is taken away. I fought three times in nine months. I won my belt and defended it. You deserve a title shot. He's a great fighter and opponent, but now you have to fight, or wait for my suspension to end and for us to fight (although the UFC doesn't want that to happen). I don't understand your insults. If you fell, you have to get up, and not complain,” concluded Khabib.

The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) punished the lightweight champion with a fine of US$500 and a nine-month suspension due to the widespread brawl at UFC 229 in October last year. However, the sentence can be reduced to six months if Khabib promotes any anti-bullying action in the state of Nevada (USA).

Nurmagomedov stated that he would remain suspended until November 2019 in support of his teammates. The one person who didn't like this at all was the UFC president, Dana White. The franchise commander threatened to take away the Russian's belt if he doesn't fight again in April.

Third time was UFC 209 where I was hospitalized and almost died. But after every single fail I were said: you missed your chance, earn your shot with one more victory. Tony you had your chance and you missed it, and that's your fault only. You know that I'm disqualified and can't fight, but it's not fair to strip me off the title, I fought 3 times in 9 months. I won and defended my belt. As a fighter you deserve a title fight, you are great fighter and opponent, but now you have to fight or wait for my DQ to be over and fight(but UFC doesn't want it).
