UFC Rio: Aldo and Belfort are the stars of the first edition of the event in 2012

With the responsibility of opening the organization's 2012 season, the second edition of UFC Rio lands again at the HSBC Arena, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, and features a card full of Brazilians in its fight program. In the main fight of the night, José Aldo will put the featherweight belt on the line against the undefeated North American Chad Mendes.

Considered a huge underdog in the fight, Mendes states that he does not feel intimidated by a fighter in his opponent's country. The American still claims that he will not understand the fans' screams and is completely focused on fighting for the belt in the under-66 kg category.

“The audience will boo me, I’m in the José Aldo. But it's okay to be booed, I won't understand everything they say, I don't speak Portuguese. I'm focused on just doing what I do. I feel really good, I'm treating this like any fight. I have a very focused vision and I trained to win the belt”, said Chad.

In turn, Aldo, who will return to fight in his country after five years working abroad, shows confidence in his stand-up fight and promises a show to defend his title in front of his fans.

"Chad Mendes has a disadvantage when fighting standing up. He's not as good a boxer as other guys I've faced, and I don't think he'll get the fight on the feet. I'm going to look for a knockout or a submission. I will win Chad Mendes”, stated Aldo.

In the second most important fight of the night, Vitor belfort continues his journey to once again have a chance to compete for the category belt. The Brazilian faces the North American Anthony Johnson, who even after not reaching the category limit, will face the “Phenomenon” in the octagon set up in Barra da Tijuca.

“I'm going to relax, enjoy, like a football striker. That was one of Romário's secrets. I want to release my game, I know what to do. I'm not going to put pressure on my head. The people want victory, but we want (Belfort and Aldo) more than they do. We will do our best and everything will work out”, said Vitor.

The second edition of UFC Rio starts at 22:30 pm and will have the entire fight program broadcast on the Combate channel. The main card starts at 1 am. TV Globo broadcasts the fights of Vitor belfort against Anthony Johnson and José Aldo before Chad Mendes.
