Tony Ferguson would face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight belt at UFC 223, in April this year. However, the former interim champion tore the ligament in his left knee and was forced to withdraw from the card. Due to recovery from surgery, 'El Cucuy' was away from the Octagon for four months. In an interview at the UFC Performance Institute on Tuesday (03), the fighter revealed that his contract guarantees that he will be the next challenger for the category belt against the winner of the fight between 'The Eagle' and Conor McGregor.

According to medical predictions, 'El Cucuy' would be out of action for six months to a year after the surgical procedure. Contrary to expectations, the fighter managed to return in just four months.

“One of the doctors estimated a recovery of between six months and a year and I thought to myself: 'Screw all this, I'll be back in four months'. I stopped drinking, I changed my whole life around me,” Tony explained.

Asked who would win the fight between Nurmagomedov and McGregor, Ferguson said: “knock each other out at the same time”.

“I'm going to keep saying this all the time: I hope these bitches knock each other out together. They talk a lot of nonsense. I hope they deal with what they have to deal with and put an end to their bullshit. This is a sport for men. We're trying to clean this shit up, but you've got these two idiots in there fighting. So whatever. Do you want me to do a promo for their fight? You're talking to the wrong guy. Talk to them”, concluded El Cucuy.
