UFC 225: Middleweight champion Whittaker sees no advantage over Yoel Romero

The Ultimate middleweight champion, Robert whittaker will make his first belt defense against the Cuban Yoel romero. The fighters star in the main fight of UFC 225 in Las Vegas this Saturday (09). This is not the first meeting of the athletes in the organization's Octagon, as in July 2017 at UFC 213, the New Zealander beat the “Soldado of God” by unanimous decision. Even with the triumph, “Bobby Knuckles” does not believe he has an advantage in the new duel.

During an interview at open training on Wednesday (06), Whittaker declared his respect for his opponent. “I think that, if we analyze the first fight, I can be proud of my achievement and of having overcome adversity. But Yoel is a dangerous guy. It catches you on the wrong day and erases you. It hits like a truck and is very explosive. He is rightfully number 1. We have to give him the respect he deserves”, said the champion.

The middleweight champion hasn't fought since his fight with Yoel in 2017. When asked about a possible advantage over Romero, “Bobby Knuckles” acknowledges that he doesn't, as his opponent also has a lot of skill.

“You would think it’s (easier), but it’s not. He is a very different and explosive fighter, he is a physical specimen, he has high quality skills. He's a dangerous guy on his best days. I'm going to go in there with a lot of respect for him, but do what I can to finish the fight”, declared Robert.

The challenger has 15 fights in his MMA career, with 13 wins and two losses. He is coming off a knockout victory over Luke Rockhold in February this year. The fight was worth the interim belt in the category, but Romero was unable to make weight in the division.

The champion, on the other hand, has a record of 23 fights, 19 wins and four losses. His last fight was a triumph over Yoel romero. In April 2017, Robert knocked out the Brazilian Ronaldo Jacare and won performance of the night.
