With this gap of time without fighting, Conor had his lightweight belt (70 kg) revoked and the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov assumed the title. From this, McGregor and the Russian fighter created a rivalry that reached its peak during the attack on the UFC 223 athletes' bus.

Faber was asked what the duel between the athletes would be like and replied: “I think Conor can finish him if he stays standing, but Khabib will try to put him down”, he explained.
