Facing Demian, Usman sees an opportunity to show that he is different

The Nigerian fighter, Kamaru Usman faces the Brazilian Demian Maia in the main fight at UFC Chile this Saturday (19). Maia replaces the Argentine, Santiago Ponzinibbio who suffered a finger injury in April. The Brazilian is currently ranked 5th in the welterweight division and, if he wins, he could be in line for a title fight with Tyron woodley.

In an interview with the Combate channel, Usman spoke about the change of opponent: “It (strategy) changes a lot. But in the end, the goal is the same, I want to be the best in the world and I have to fight anyone who is in front of me. I have to change the strategy a little, but the objective is the same, to be dominant from the beginning to the end in every fight I fight,” he said.

Demian Maia accepted the fight and guaranteed Usman on the event card in Chile. “Demian Maia He's very tough, a legend in jiu-jitsu, in MMA, but I know I'm on a different level than a lot of guys in the UFC. I think it’s my time and my opportunity to change that”, he analyzed.

The Nigerian fighter speaks a little Portuguese. “Yes, I speak a little Portuguese. My daughter is half Brazilian and I have to learn, because sometimes she says something she can't say and I have to keep an eye on it!”, he concluded.
