Despite denying he is obsessed with beating Jones, Cormier admitted that beating him would be special, if only because it would mean he will have avenged his only MMA loss. Strikeforce heavyweight champion, DC has faced names like Antonio Pezão, Frank mir, Roy Nelson, Josh Barnett and Dan Henderson, but admits that the triumph against “Bones” will be different.

“It doesn’t matter. Before he meant a lot to me. Now it doesn't matter. So I can approach it as if it doesn't matter at all to me. Jon has no mental control over me. Jon will not have emotional control over me. I just don't care. I accepted this and it allowed me to be freer in everything. In my preparation, in my life, it doesn't matter. He is just a victory for my reign. I know it's bigger because he defeated me before, but he's just another victory in my reign. It’s the chance to correct the mistake of 2015”, commented the champion in an interview with the North American website “FloCombat”, who declared that he was also comfortable and adapted to the life of a champion.

“I was very excited about becoming champion. I'm comfortable in my position now. Every fight is five rounds. Every fight being big. Every fight being for the title and I think that's a big part of it. Knowing that I am the champion and accepting this fight as my fight. This fight is not about the Jon Jones. This fight is not about becoming champion. This fight is about me,” he said.
