In the early hours of this Friday (7), Brazilian Gabi Garcia made her debut in shootboxing, a modality that mixes stand-up fighting with some types of submission and is very famous in Japan. However, the jiu-jitsu world champion's first contact with the new sport ended without result. This is because Gabi kicked her opponent Megumi Yabushita in the head when she was lying down, the famous “goal shot”, and the duel was immediately interrupted, leaving it in a “no contest” (fight without result).

Shortly after releasing the blow, the Brazilian received a red card from the central referee and the fight ended without result. Gabi was 35 kg. more than Yabushita, but his inexperience in fighting on the feet meant that the duel was not that unequal.
Gabi Garcia made history in jiu-jitsu with several titles, and began to venture into MMA, being hired by Rizin, a Japanese event that seeks to recreate the magic of the old Pride. To transition between sports, Gabi began training with Chris Cyborg, former Invicta champion and UFC featherweight title challenger. Her current record is four wins and no defeats, but always against physically inferior opponents with little experience in the sport.
