The Brazilian Demian Maia He will finally have the chance to compete for the UFC welterweight belt (up to 77,1 kg). On Wednesday night (28), the organization announced that the São Paulo native will face the champion Tyron woodley at UFC 214, an event that takes place on July 29, in Anaheim, California (USA). The fight will be the show's third title fight, which also features Chris Cyborg against Tonya Evinger for the women's featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) belt and the popular rematch between Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier for the light heavyweight throne (up to 93 kg.).

The announcement of the fight was made by Woodley himself on the UFC Tonight program, on FOX Sports in the United States. “I will face Demian Maia, in Anaheim, California. He's coming to take my belt and, guess what, I'm not going to make it easy for him. I'm training in Los Angeles, I'll be very prepared for this fight. I’m motivated to defend my belt”, said the champion.
Demian Maia, former middleweight title challenger, is experiencing the best moment of his career in the welterweight division. At the new weight, the Brazilian has a streak of seven wins, beating names like: Carlos Condit, Jorge masvidal, Matt Brown, Neil Magny and Gunnar Nelson.
On the other hand, 35-year-old Woodley has a professional record of 17 wins, one draw and three losses. The North American won the category belt by knocking out Robbie Lawler, in July 2016. After two fights against Stephen Thompson, with a draw and a victory, the North American seeks to achieve his third title defense against Demian.
