Coming off six consecutive wins in the welterweight division, Demian Maia could receive the long-awaited chance to fight for the belt if he defeats Jorge masvidal at UFC 211, May 13, in Dallas (USA). However, for the current champion Tyron woodley, the Brazilian didn't even need to accept the duel, since the category has no other legitimate challenger. According to the American, Demian had a 'stupid' attitude.

“Unfortunately for Maia, he accepted the fight the week (against Masvidal) the week of my fight against Wonderboy. In my opinion, he was wrong to accept it. Wait and see how the fight went. If no one came out of the fight injured, a clear winner, not another draw, you are already in a position to fight for the title. Why would you put yourself up against the worst possible matchup outside of a title fight? Why would you put yourself in that position? I don’t want to call him stupid, but it was a stupid choice,” said Woodley, in an interview with UFC Unfiltered.

Woodley last played in March of this year, when he won the rematch against Stephen Thompson and retained the welterweight belt. Demian, in turn, has not stepped into the Octagon since August 2016. At the time, he submitted Carlos Condit in just 1m52s.
