The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) suspended Jon Jones for a year after the former light heavyweight champion was caught in a surprise drug test shortly before his fight at UFC 200, last July. The fighter had already been punished by USADA (US Anti-Doping Agency) for the same period of 12 months. The information was published first-hand by the website 'MMA Fighting' (USA).

Jones was withdrawn at the last minute from UFC 200, when he was scheduled to face Daniel Cormier for the definitive belt in the category. At the time, the athlete was caught taking clomiphene and Letrozole, both estrogen blockers. As these are not substances that provide a direct gain in performance, the penalty provided for by the regulation was slightly milder than conventional.

The punishment is retroactive to July 6, the date on which the test results were revealed, making him eligible to fight again in July 2017.
