The featherweight Raphael Assunção is another Brazilian confirmed at UFC Rio. The fighter was announced today (01) on the preliminary card of the show, where he will face the North American Darren Uyenoyama on August 27th at the HSBC Arena, located in Barra da Tijuca.
With a record containing 16 wins and four losses, Assunção will have his second fight as a UFC athlete. The 28-year-old from Pernambuco is coming off a defeat in his debut at the event, where he was knocked out by the North American Erik Koch in the first round of the UFC 128 clash, which took place in March this year.
In turn, Uyenoyama will debut in the UFC after nine fights as a professional athlete. With stints at Strikeforce and DREAM, the fighter comes from a technical knockout (punches) victory over Japanese Suichiro Katsumura in the Shooto – The Way of Shooto 5: Like a Tiger, Like a Dragon, held in September last year in Japan.
With the inclusion of the clash between Assunção and Uyenoyama, UFC Rio now has 12 fights on its schedule.
