Poirier exudes confidence and says: 'I'm going to be world champion soon'

Light weight Dustin poirier It's not even part of the top 5 in the division, but it's already aiming high for its next steps. The fighter faces Michael Johnson in the main fight this Saturday (17), at UFC Fight Night 94, in Hidalgo (USA), and he knows that a victory puts him very close to the top five in the category. More than that, he wants to prove that he can be a real threat to champion Eddie Alvarez.

“I believe that if I fight Eddie Alvarez today, I will take his belt. I feel like I’m going to be the world champion and that’s going to be soon,” he told the North American website ‘Fox Sports’

Since leaving the featherweight division and returning to the lightweight division, Poirier has scored four consecutive victories, three of which were by knockouts, all in the first round. At 27 years old, he claims to be reaching the peak of his physical conditioning, and believes that his knockout power in the category is capable of taking down any opponent.

“I can knock out anyone. I'm getting stronger, my technique is getting better and I feel like I have my power back. (…) I'm having fun again. The results of my last fights showed that I'm having fun again, just enjoying it.”

Asked about his next appointment, against Michael Johnson, Dustin says he is better than his rival in all areas of the game, and guarantees that he deserves a chance to fight for the belt if he wins again. “I feel like I'm better than him in every aspect of fighting. If he thinks that boxing is his strong point, this will be a difficult battle for him. (..) I'm about to have a big fight and beat Michael Johnson. I feel like after this win, one or two more and I should be fighting for the belt, or even before that,” she concluded.
