The Russian event Fight Nights has already caused astonishment by declaring that, even in the midst of a major anti-doping crusade in MMA (led mainly by the UFC and USADA), it will not carry out any type of test on the fighters of its next event, scheduled for the 17th. of June, and which will be headlined by the fight between Fábio Maldonado and Fedor Emelianenko. However, an even bigger surprise was caused by Maldonado, who assumed that he will use illegal substances to fight Fedor.

“It’s just me against him. Everyone understands these things (doping). I'm not going to be a poor thing here, am I? Everyone understands and knows what to take and what not to take. What I can say is that I don't take these things, but, for example, when I was in the final stretch of the UFC and had a surprise exam, I took DHEA, because the doctor said that for men after the age of 32 it helps the skin, the hormones… Anyway, but that wasn’t even a bomb. I'm not taking it yet, but I believe that next week I'll start using it”, said “Caipira de Aço”, in an interview with the website “Ag. Fight.”
The DHEA substance was the same one whose use recently caused the release of Lyoto Machida of the fight against Dan Henderson No. UFC Tampa. The hormone replacement is prohibited in Brazil, but is normally sold in pharmacies in the United States. The product is advertised as an “anti-aging hormone”.
Furthermore, Maldonado recognized that, on the one hand, leaving the UFC was good for his career, as it led him to the biggest fight of his professional career. “It’s definitely the biggest fight of my career. I have no doubt. In that sense, it was good (leaving the UFC). Of course, at the time I was sad, but today it was the best option. God writes correctly through crooked lines”, he concluded.
