The Brazilian is going through a difficult phase in the UFC, with three knockout defeats in his last four fights. To turn things around, Mutante promises that he will show great progress in the fight against Oluwale Bamgbose.

“I trained a lot, and there will definitely be a lot of capoeira techniques, strikes and feints. People really ask me, they ask if it's now that I'm going to show the half moon. I'm happy to represent capoeira, which is a Brazilian art. I wear this flag to reaffirm Brazilian martial art within the big event, to carry this legacy. It will be a totally different Mutant. I live up to my nickname, I'm really changing. A change in the physical part, in the technical part, and I’m going to show that”, he said, in an interview with the official UFC website in Brazil.

Originally, Mutante would have a Brazilian duel against Gaius Monster, but his opponent's injury forced the UFC to select Bamgbose at the last minute. “I received [the change] naturally. I prepare to fight, not the opponent. When they told me it had changed, I said: 'OK, send the new contract and let's move on'. The UFC even managed to find me an opponent. It would be frustrating to do an entire training camp, invest time and money to get the job done and not be able to fight. The UFC is professional and resolved this quickly”, he praised.
