The curse that plagues the participation of Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC Fight Night Tampa claimed another victim. After leaving the card Tony Ferguson, the Russian's original opponent, the Ultimate organization found a last-minute replacement, Donald Cerrone. Hours after signing the contract for the duel, however, Cowboy was also injured and had to leave the fight.

The information was released by Nurmagomedov himself, on his official profile on Twitter. "Wow! I just signed the contract to fight Cowboy at welterweight and, three hours later, he fractures his rib and leaves the fight. Any other opponents for April 16th?”, wrote the Russian.

But Khabib already has his main target: the former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. “Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis, where are you?”, he posted shortly afterwards. The problem, however, is that Pettis already has a fight scheduled for the next few days. The North American is scheduled to face the Brazilian Edson Barboza at UFC 197, a week after the event in Tampa, on April 23.

This Thursday (07), Donald Cerrone refuted Nurmagomedov's statements and said he was not injured or denied the contract. “Let's be very, very, very clear: I didn't get out of this damn fight! There's nothing wrong with me. By the way, Khabib, it's not my fault you were injured for four years. The UFC doesn't want you to get run over at welterweight. I, on the other hand, always fight!”, wrote the Cowboy.
