With the triumph, Fitch takes the title that belonged to the Brazilian Rousimar Toquinho, which had the belt removed after securing a submission against Jake Shields.
The fight
Zeferino started the first round ready to surprise and even landed good blows on the North American. However, from the second round onwards, the former UFC title challenger made his traditional pressure game prevail.
Fitch took down João on several occasions and crushed the Brazilian in the ground fight. Zeferino still managed to stay in the fight, but already tired, he was unable to find space for the submission and lost with a unanimous decision from the judges.
Vinny Pezão wins second
If João Zeferino did not win, the other Brazilian on the event card had better luck. Black belt Vinny Pezão achieved his second victory in the organization. Facing Jake Heun, the Brazilian dominated the actions and took the win in the unanimous decision of the judges.
