The controversial moments of the fight between Anderson Silva e Michael Bisping still resonate. The Englishman, who won the duel by the judges' decision, gave his view on the “mouthguard controversy”, a move that divided opinions about the fight held in London at the end of February.
At the end of the third round, Bisping dropped his mouthguard and asked for the fight to be stopped to replace it. The referee of the fight, Herb Dean, did not accept the request, and Anderson, taking advantage of his rival's moment of distraction, threw a flying knee that almost earned him a knockout.
In an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”, Bisping acknowledged the hesitation at that moment. “I got distracted. I made a rookie mistake and Anderson took advantage. I'm not sure if it was a punch or what, but my guard came out of my mouth. I'm not mad at anyone. I'm not mad at Anderson or the referee. I should know better what to do”, admitted the Englishman.
After the bid, Anderson Silva he celebrated the blow, as if he had actually achieved victory. The referee then warned the Brazilian fighter that the fight was not over, in an attitude that earned Bisping's praise. “I was on the ground, but I wasn't knocked out. Herb Dean made a great decision. He needed courage to decide, as Anderson was trying to steal the victory by influencing the judges. I wasn't knocked out: I was on the ground, telling Herb Dean that I was fine”, he clarified.
