Cruz changes his mind and accepts trilogy against Faber: 'We owe it to the fans'

Bantamweight champion recalled that rivalry with the leader of Alpha Male is almost ten years old

after winning TJ Dillashaw and regain the bantamweight belt, Dominick Cruz said his favorite rival for the sequel would be the current flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, whom he has already beaten in the past, completely ignoring the possibility of having it again Urijah faber ahead. However, Cruz seems to have changed his mind and now agrees to promote the conclusion of his trilogy against the leader of Team Alpha Male.

“For the last four years, the only guy I was asked about was Faber, whether he was on TV or shopping at the mall. I'm going to get him out of my way, so I can continue sweeping the division”, said Cruz, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”. “We owe this trilogy to the fans. We’ve been at this for almost a decade,” he assured.

Cruz and Faber faced each other for the first time in 2007, in a fight valid for the now-defunct WEC featherweight title, and the California Kid won by submission. In the rematch, four years later, already in the UFC, Cruz, already the bantamweight champion at the time, emerged victorious in a unanimous decision from the judges.
