Shortly after defeating José Aldo and win the UFC featherweight belt, Conor McGregor and his team expressed their desire to move up in weight and also become champions in the lightweight division. However, the coach Frankie Edgar, Mark Henry, did not like the idea, as he considers that his athlete has the right to face the Irishman for the title of the under 66 kg category.

Last Friday (11), Edgar knocked out in the first round Chad Mendes, who was coming off a close fight with McGregor. For Henry, the Irishman has a moral duty to face the North American before thinking about moving up a category.

“Man, why is this kid running so much? He's already had two chances to face Frankie. First was when Aldo got injured and the UFC asked Chad, 'Are you training?', and he said no. Then they ask Frankie the same thing, and he says yes. Then he [McGregor] chose Mendes. Now, Frankie ends up with the same guy McGregor faced on ten days' notice and beat him until he was tired. Frankie was part of it. Now that you have the belt, be a man and defend it”, said Henry, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

McGregor's head trainer, John Kavanagh, revealed that the fighter's intention is to fight for the lightweight belt in April and defend the featherweight title in July, against Edgar. The UFC, however, has not confirmed that this plan will come to fruition, as it wants McGregor to give up his featherweight title if he really wants to move up to lightweight.
