In 2011, just before holding its biggest event yet, the UFC brought together all its champions for a special press conference. Today, less than five years later, none of them remains in the same position, as the last one that remained dominant until then, José Aldo, was dethroned last weekend.

At that time, the UFC had as champions Cain Velazquez (heavy), Jon Jones (light heavyweight), Anderson Silva (medium), Georges St Pierre (welterweight), Frankie Edgar (light), Aldo (feathers), Dominick Cruz (roosters). The flyweight, women's rooster and women's straw categories did not yet make up the organization's squad.

The champions of the occasion fell for different reasons. Velasquez, Anderson, Edgar and Aldo were defeated in title fights; Jones was removed from his post due to extra-octagon problems, GSP gave up the belt and stepped away from fights, while Cruz lost the title due to a long period of inactivity, which lasted from 2011 to 2014.

Several of these champions could soon regain their position at the top. Cruz will face TJ Dillashaw for the bantamweight title next month; in February, Velasquez will face Fabricio Werdum for the heavyweight title, and, ultimately, Jones must challenge Daniel Cormier in April.
