The main fight of UFC 189, held on the 11th, was important for the future of José Aldo. The Brazilian, cut from the event due to injury, would meet his next opponent there, who would leave the fight between Conor McGregor e Chad Mendes. Despite this, the linear featherweight champion didn't even watch the Irishman's victory over the North American.

At a press conference held in Rio de Janeiro, Aldo stated that he doesn't usually watch fights that don't feature his friends or training partners – and the fight between McGregor and Mendes was no exception. Thus, the Brazilian was only left with the analysis of his coach, Dedé Pederneiras, who considered that the development of the attraction was positive for Aldo.

"It is funny. When my friends aren't fighting, I don't even watch. Dedé told me that it was peaceful, that it was a good fight for us. As long as Chad was in one piece, he was winning. They weren't supposed to stop the fight, but when I'm not fighting, I don't read or watch anything”, commented the Brazilian, in an excerpt reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

Aldo confirmed that he tried until the last moments to perform in the event even though he was injured, but that he gave up when he realized that it would not be possible. “I considered fighting [with McGregor] injured. I like big events and I had been training well. We asked for a deadline for me to try to recover and fight injured, but I didn't recover as expected. I still feel pain. I would have fought if I could, but I couldn’t,” he explained.

UFC president Dana White confirmed that the fight between Aldo and McGregor will take place in Las Vegas, in the United States. Even though it was neutral territory, Aldo said he would have no problem facing his rival in Ireland. “It would be great, I don’t see any problems with that. The fans can say whatever – if they don't speak Portuguese, I won't understand a word, so I don't care. I’m already looking forward to fighting,” he said.

Finally, Aldo sent a message to his rival: “Get ready, I'm coming. He can say whatever he wants, but the weapons he has don't hold a candle to what I'm going to show him”, he says.
